We’re part of the STEM Challenge 2019!
We are very excited to announce that we are part of the 2019 Shropshire STEM Challenge. The STEM challenge is run by the team at the Shropshire Star and partners local schools and companies together to help groups of students create a product using the STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and maths.
After a hugely successful year in 2018 and the release of our brand new technology, NT Multimedia, we thought there was no better time for us to take part in the STEM challenge for the first time. We believe we can offer the students a new perspective on technology and help to promote the STEM subjects.
Who, What, Why?
This year we are partnered with Idsall School in Shifnal, Shropshire, which we are very excited about. The school has a great reputation, especially in the STEM subjects, and we are sure the students will bring some brilliant ideas to the challenge. Two of our marketing superstars, Amelia Ebdon and Becky Homersley will be taking on the role of mentors along with our resident tech wizard, Sam Myatt.
The challenge for this year, that was announced at the launch event on the 9th of January, is an exciting one. Each team needs to design a product that has a positive benefit to an individual or group and the environment or just the environment, using the elements of STEM.
We can’t wait to get stuck in helping the children at Idsall to create a product that really makes a difference! One of the main reasons that we have decided to take part in the STEM challenge is to support the promotion of STEM subjects which our business relies on. We want to encourage local young children to take a keen interest in STEM while encouraging a diverse range of children to take part. We hope to inspire our school’s pupils to consider apprenticeships in STEM subjects as well as future careers. Not only that but we can’t wait to gain a lot of knowledge and inspiration from the pupils we will be working with.
Our marketing manager Amelia who is a STEM mentor said “Sam, Becky and I are really excited to be representing Network Telecom in the STEM challenge this year and mentoring Idsall School. After our training yesterday, we can’t wait to get started! The STEM subjects and encouraging the next generation of apprentices and STEM graduates is something that we fully support here at Network Telecom. From our engineers and our R&D team, to our account managers and customer services team, everyone is trained in the technology that we offer and uses at least one of the STEM disciplines on a daily basis.”
“As a Marketing Manager, I am particularly excited for the research and presentation aspects of the challenge, helping the students to communicate their great ideas effectively. I’m sure all of us will learn a thing or two from them! We hope that by getting involved we can help to boost interest in the STEM subjects, particularly amongst women and minority groups, to ensure that nobody feels like a career in technology is off limits to them in the future.”
When, Where and How?
The STEM challenge culminates in a judging and awards day on the 4th of July at The Marches Centre of Manufacturing and Technology. This is where the overall winner will be chosen as well as the following award categories; best work plan, best presentation, best team work, best operating model, best entrepreneurial team, business champion and a mentor recognition award. The STEM Challenge wouldn’t be possible without Entrust and the Shropshire Star as well as the headline sponsors including our neighbours Denso as well as Epson, Avara Foods, Telford and Wrekin Council, Protolabs, Ironbridge Gorge Museums, Hitachi Capital Invoice Finance and The Careers and Enterprise Company..
Keep your eyes peeled on our blog and social media channels for updates on how the challenge is progressing. If you have any questions, feel free to contact our friendly team on firstname.lastname@example.org or 01952 221 327.
