Top tips for working from home
With more and more employees choosing to work remotely in recent years, having a productive and secure home office setup is important. Whether you are working remotely full time or occasionally, we have combined our top tips for working from home.
We recommend that, before you start to work from home, you make a comprehensive list of all of your needs to ensure that you are fully setup when the time comes. This includes a proper space to work. It is recommended that you work at a table or desk where possible as opposed to on a sofa or bed. Your list may include things such as; an ergonomic keyboard and mouse, a reliable router and any equipment and stationary you would ordinarily need.
It goes without saying that in order to successfully work from home you will need a strong and stable internet connection, we recommend fibre where possible.
One of the main things to ensure when working from home is that you have full contact to your office while at home. If you have a VoIP phone, such as NT Multimedia, you will be able to simply take this home with you. If that isn’t an option, you can setup call diverts from your desk phone to your mobile phone or use a headset to call in and out of the office. Another option is to set your voicemail to be emailed to you so that, in the instance you don’t have access to a desk phone or business mobile, you can still hear messages left for you.
Another way to ensure you keep in contact is of course, emails. If you use an email client such as Microsoft Outlook you will be able to connect to your emails but it may be that you need a VPN for email access as well.
In order to have access to your company’s emails and database you may need to setup a virtual private network (VPN). If this is not a possibility, we recommend saving your work locally to your device and taking regular backups.
There are inevitably more distractions when working from home so we strongly recommend setting up a professional working space with plenty of light with all of the stationary, equipment and applications you may need. Keeping to regular office hours and break times is important to ensure you are having regular rests throughout the day.
